Yeastie Boys Campaign to Get New Zealand into Eurovision

The Yeastie Boys craft beer company is on a mission to get New Zealand into Eurovision.

They’ve teamed up with musical comedy duo Two Hearts to create their own unofficial Eurovision entry, which has garnered over 1/4 million views on social media and been featured by various news outlets, including Kay Burley on Sky News.

It may seem odd that countries like Australia are allowed to compete in Eurovision, but New Zealand is not. However, Yeastie Boys and Two Hearts are determined to change that. Their entry, titled “Open Up,” highlights that New Zealand may not be as remote from Europe as we all think.

Holly Bodle, Yeastie Boys Brand Manager at Kingfisher Drinks, expressed her excitement about the campaign: “We are thrilled to be leading this initiative to get New Zealand into Eurovision. As a brand that celebrates creativity and innovation, Eurovision is the perfect platform for us to showcase what makes New Zealand so special and the Kiwi sense of humour. We hope that our entry will inspire others to support this cause and help make it a reality.”

While the Yeastie Boys and Two Hearts’ entry may be unofficial, it’s clear that they’re not alone in their desire to see New Zealand compete in Eurovision. The campaign has already generated a lot of buzz on social media, with fans of the competition showing their support.

“All of the engagement we’ve had on social media has been completely organic,” continued Holly, “Aside from producing the video, we’ve put £0 budget behind it, which just goes to show how passionate our fan-base are. But we’ve seen a lot of traction beyond our own following, with over 160 news outlets covering the story. It’s been wonderfully mad!”

Whether or not New Zealand will eventually be allowed to compete in Eurovision remains to be seen. But for now, Yeastie Boys and Two Hearts are doing their part to put New Zealand on the map and show the world what they’re missing!
